From Court to Family: How Cayla George’s Basketball Journey and Family Life Mix Perfectly

So, you’ve probably heard of Cayla George, the awesome Australian basketball player who just snagged a bronze medal at the Olympics! But behind this big win, there’s a lot more happening, especially thanks to her hubby, Kailou George.

Cayla George

Kailou, who’s 33, plays for Erub United, a local Aussie team that’s sponsored by the KYKOE group. He’s not just cheering Cayla on from the sidelines; he’s also her assistant coach during their home games. Talk about teamwork!

They’ve got a cute little family, including their daughter, Pearl, and two dogs. They live in a swanky mansion in Australia, and Kailou’s got 2.2k Instagram followers. He posts cool stuff like pics of his family and gym sessions. One funny post was about a praying mantis on his back while Cayla was hanging on him. It’s these little moments that show just how real and fun their relationship is.

Kailou comes from Torres Strait Island and stays true to his cultural roots, even though Cayla is from the southern part of Australia. They adopted Pearl from a close family member, which is a big deal in their culture. Cayla and Kailou wanted a family pretty soon after getting married, but Cayla had some issues with her menstrual cycle, probably because of all the intense training and stress from endless tournaments.

They explored different ways to start a family, and Kailou’s intro to indigenous culture helped. In Torres Strait Island, there’s a tradition called Island adoption, where family members can gift babies to couples who are struggling with childbirth. It’s a beautiful gesture and really respects their culture.

After the 2016 Rio Olympics, Kailou’s sister decided it was the right time for everyone involved to conceive a baby. By 2022, Cayla revealed that Kailou’s sister was pregnant with Pearl, just as Queensland made Island adoption legal in 2020. So, Cayla and Kailou’s dream of becoming Pearl’s parents came true!

Cayla shared in an interview about parenthood that it’s all about constantly trying to improve and not letting negative talk or social media pressure get to them. After Pearl was born, Cayla jumped back into basketball, while Kailou took on more baby duties. They’re hoping to grow their family even more in the future!
