Okay, so this guy, Richard Mortel Lugner, was an Austrian dude who made a ton of money in construction and even tried his hand at politics. Sadly, he passed away on August 12, 2024, but not before amassing a whopping $200 million net worth!

Richard was born in Vienna, and his dad was a lawyer. He learned a lot about building stuff in school and started working at a building company in Vienna. He got his start by taking small jobs to build gas stations. From there, things just blew up for him!

Building His Empire

Richard didn’t stop with gas stations. He went big and opened his own shopping mall called Lugner City. At one point, it was the seventh-largest shopping center in Austria. In 2005, he built a massive movie theater, Lugner Kino, which could fit more than 1,500 people. He also had this cool tradition of inviting celebrities to his mall and taking them to the Vienna Opera Ball. This made his business super popular.

Trying Politics

Richard was more than just a businessman. He also wanted to be a politician. He ran for president in Austria in 1998 and 2006. He didn’t win, but it made him even more famous and added to his fortune.

Crazy Personal Life

Richard’s personal life was like a soap opera. He was married several times. First, he married Christine Gmeiner, and they had four kids. Then he married actress Sonja Jeannine, and later Cathy Schmitz, who got financial support from him every month. His last marriage was to Simone Reilander in June 2024, just two weeks before he passed away.

Despite his success, Richard had some serious health problems. He fought prostate cancer and had to get radiotherapy. Then, he got skin cancer, which meant more surgeries. At 91, he had an emergency operation for a leaky heart valve, which led to his death a month later.

Leaving a Legacy

Richard Lugner’s life was all about hard work and big dreams. He left behind a huge business empire and a lot of stories. His family will continue his legacy and keep the businesses running.
