Our favorite operating system continues to advance slowly, and also without pause, and Android has reached a remarkable degree of maturity. Precisely because it’s at this point, it has some tricks that will allow us to master our phone to get the most out of it.

The initial setup leaves our phone ready to use normally, but we always end up visiting the settings, whether it’s to share the Internet, check the battery consumption, or any other change we need to make. It may be tedious to locate this setting, but with this trick you will access it directly from the home screen.

All the settings you want on your home screen

As we said before, setting up an Android phone is easy, especially thanks to the order of the settings, which makes it easy to do so. But it’s not always that fast, what’s more, if we need to enter regularly, it ends up becoming too tedious.

Luckily, we have widgets as a lifeline for this problem (first world, without a doubt), adding them to the home screen won’t take more than a few seconds. Why are we talking about widgets if we want to get to specific settings? Well, because, thanks to the possibilities of these, we can use them as shortcuts.

Thus, it will be possible to have icons on our home screen that will take us to specific configurations, such as one-handed mode, notification, screen, WiFi, or vibration settings. We have endless possibilities that will speed up this task.

How can we add them? We summarize it in a few steps:

  • First of all, you need to be on the home screen of your Android phone, and hold your finger pressed on an empty space.
  • Two options on the home screen will be displayed, including the one we’re interested in: Widgets.
  • We’ll see the list of available widgets, and we long-press on the ‘Settings’ widget.
  • Next, we’ll place it in the desired place on the home screen.
  • When you release the shortcut, a new screen will open where you can select the category or setting you want to have at hand.

Ready! From now on, going to a specific adjustment will be instantaneous. You no longer have to follow the entire route to it, but it will always be on your home screen along with the icons of apps and widgets.

It’s worth mentioning that these instructions may vary slightly depending on the make and model of your Android smartphone. But they usually follow the same pattern, so you won’t have a hard time completing it.

Here are the shortcuts to the most essential settings

Among all the options that give us this kind of widgets focused on the settings, there are some that will be more useful than others, although it will depend on our needs. For a server, who fiddles with his phone a lot, there are three that are almost essential.

The first is none other than access to system updates, a corner of Android that I usually go to from time to time. I’ll leave my obsession with updates for another time, but if you like to keep your phone up to date, it’s essential. What automatic updates exist… Yes, however, I love to see the warning and press the button from time to time to check if any of them got lost along the way.

Secondly, I have the icon that will launch me to the battery section, a section of the settings that is convenient to visit if we notice an abnormal consumption. So, hunting down that battery-draining app will be faster, and it’s also a way to keep saving mode handy.

inally, the third in discord is ‘Application Information’, the access that takes us to the list of applications. Yes, the one we got to from Settings > Apps > See All Apps. What’s the point of having it around? Well, when I need to clear the cache of an application, it’s very useful, and the same to uninstall them.

In short, these three icons that are part of the home screen are essential to feel comfortable with my Android phone. Do you plan to use these widgets? Were you already doing it? What are your must-haves? We’ll read you in the comments.
