Aberdeen Football Coach Aims For Football Player Transfer To Montesano During His Mother’s Cancer Battle

The whole thing with Marcus and the Aberdeen football coach honestly felt like something that happened at my school with one of my classmates who had to transfer because his family had a medical problem, and the teachers acted weird. So this whole thing swooping in has not surprised me, but it still has made me sad.

Kimberley Sue Hale is Marcus’s mother from Aberdeen, and she posted on her Facebook about how the coach treated Marcus after transferring schools while she had cancer.

Two years ago, she was under chemotherapy and radiation. As a single parent, things got pretty hard. That is when Marcus began slipping in school and in football, as everything around him was getting heavy. I have seen such scenarios with people of my age when someone at home falls critically ill.

She thought it would be a good idea to get Marcus some adult help from the family. They have decided to move in with his older brother; Marcus will be completing his high school in Montesano, where he should get more support, while Kimberley is focused on her treatments.

But the Aberdeen coach didn’t take it too well at all.

He sent Marcus text messages stating that he was disappointed. He even stated that Montesano had been scouting him, which was a pure lie.

After Marcus left, the coach held a team meeting and discussed next season without Marcus. Then, he removed all his game film, which colleges normally check.

Marcus felt betrayed. He had spent his whole childhood playing with the same teammates from kindergarten to junior year. He had never gotten into trouble at school, not once.

There was one really bad incident. Every Thanksgiving, the kids in the town play a small, friendly football game on the Aberdeen field. Everybody calls it the Turkey Bowl. It’s not a school event, just local kids and family having fun.

Marcus came back home from college this year and played like always with his brother. The coach, however, walked up to him and told him he was not allowed on the field anymore, just because he transferred to Montesano while his mother was sick.

According to Kimberley, Marcus has given everything to the school for so many years and has stayed loyal even after leaving. He never caused any issues and still tried to keep good relations.

To her, this was an adult who teaches young players yet treats a student in such a way during one of his worst times in life, and when he is most in need of understanding.

Her post ended with saying no coach should act like this toward a kid who was just trying to manage life while his mother fought cancer.

”Many supported her on the internet. Someone commented that it was a bad thing for any coach to treat such a young man this way. Jeanne Belden Galloway also commented, saying that parents expect more from the leadership, and Marcus got stronger through the family.” You may also be interested in: New Look At The Story Of 14 Year Old Football Player Haven Lemaire And The Lafayette Funeral Fight
