It has been nine years since the 2017 shooting of Kamilion Milly Jenkins, and her family is still waiting for answers.
On March 28, 2017, what was supposed to be a normal ride home became a nightmare for one Michigan City family. That evening, 15 year old Kamilion Milly Jenkins was sitting in a car near Grace Street and Holliday Street in Michigan City, Indiana. She was with two adults and a one year old baby. Around 8:45 p.m., their car stopped because a train was passing.
Then everything changed.
Another vehicle pulled up next to them. Someone inside opened fire. Milly and 28 year old Cherita Wright were hit. The baby and the other people in the car were not injured.

Milly was pronounced dead at the scene. Cherita Wright survived after getting treatment at a nearby hospital.

Kamilion Milly Jenkins was born on July 13, 2001. Her visitation was held on April 7, 2017. Funeral services took place on April 8 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was buried at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Her family has faced more pain over the years. In October 2021, the City of Michigan City placed a memorial street sign at the intersection where she was killed. Just days after the sign was revealed, her brother Jose Jenkins Jr. died after being hit by a semi truck on Interstate 94.
Even after almost a decade, the family continues to push for justice for Kamilion Milly Jenkins. They have organized walks, spoken publicly, and kept her name alive in the community.
